CANCER IN LOVE (A pink October rendition)

Image
We have been friends for very long. It seemed normal to call often, chat every day and think about him like food (at least 3 times a day). It passed for a ‘good friendship’ and nothing more (I mean it). Until one day faithful to only itself, he spilled oil over the troubled waters. ‘‘I LOVE YOU’’ he said. I felt like vomiting. What? Who? How? When? Where? Why? I would have pretended I misunderstood but in all our playfulness and openness as friends, he has never used these three words in such order and in such short sentence, no preface, no epilogue. My mind was bursting with rhetorics that needed answers so they become authentic questions. ‘I only like you as a friend, can’t you see I can date everyone except you?’ Michael’s countenance changed into twilight. I could no longer see the happy face that hugged me about 30 minutes ago when we arrived at this eatery. The joy eloped, the sun stood still for the next 10 minutes before I stood up like a robot, face above his head ...

MEDIA POSITIVE (M+); AN EPILOGUE

Image
Letters to the Media Series (An Epilogue) One day, a lady showed me a picture of her course-mate dressed so inappropriate she said she felt ashamed to even respond to their Facebook chat. I looked and I saw over 200 likes and hundreds of comments. So I wondered, no matter the verbal dexterity I exude in my posts I haven’t gotten near the attention she has. Then it struck me what the media wanted. The media’s basis of performance appraisal places ‘trade’ on everything we presumably own physiologically. I choose to call it trade because she decided to sell off herself to earn a few more comments and likes. It’s alarmingly crazy what people do to be ‘Facebook heroes and heroines, Instagram Slay Queens and Kings, Snap Chat Geniuses and Superheroes’. If you don’t teach your children to be self-confident and less dependent on public opinions, the media would do that in a bad way. Two boys gave themselves a challenge that whoever gets a higher number of followers on Twitter withi...

THE MEDIA AGE (Ep. 5)

Image
Letters to the Media (Ep.5) She is 35 and on Facebook it is written 25 He is Chidi but on Facebook he says Barack Nelson. She’s not fair enough So she makes Celine Dion her profile picture The media age is different from the actual age But there’s a meeting place This moot-point is called SELF ESTEEM People feel either too old or too young, Too fat or too slim They are just too ‘me-like’ so to turn ‘media-like’, They downsize a huge portion of their breakfast Divest their lunch And invest their dinner in a foil paper for tomorrow Calling it a slimming course. Let’s get less MEDIA-LIKE The truth is that we make the media And we can destroy the erroneous perceptions we have built like a Tower of Babel Which is only reaching to the height of our ignorance. Our differences is the strength of us That’s why we are higher animals Not because we have stomachs, it’s the shape of our stomach Not because we have heads, it’s the shape of the ...

A TROPHY; THE BEST WOMAN

Image
Dedicated on the 13th day of May, 2018 to all virtuous mothers in the world and specially to those whose memories are legendary💖 You don't know the things we go through to see our children happy You don't know the tears we hide to see them laughing Oh, you cannot understand the pain we chide to see them powerful No, you can't fathom the sacrifices we make to see them be who they ' can ' be. We may be poor , but for our children we are ever rich We may be weak, but for our children, we are always strong We may be sick, but for our children we are ever fit. When it comes to our kids, we can fight life itself Don't pity us when we fail to continue because death slipped in. Love us because we did all we could. Mama, you are a gem that I love. A rare jewel found in nowhere else but you. May our mothers ever live long to see us celebrate them more💕!!! A poem by Elizabeth Ewudiwa (c) 2018 All Rights Reserved. Share with a 'Mother figu...

YOUR WORTH; You define it

Image
Episode 1, A Woman's Plights Series.                                                  Dedicated to every woman who fights to keep the dignity. Dear woman, You are the biggest meat in the largest pot of soup. Should I ask you pardon my words? I don’t think so. You have tolerated more insults and have been humiliated much more. No! not by men, but by thyself . You have an ‘ideal’ image, one generally presented by the world through the media and peers. I hurt to see young girls growing into this ‘deceptive’ perception of what and who really a woman should be. Fleshy? Soft? Quiet? Dull? Passive? The world has changed, please do too. A beautiful woman, everyone loves her and wants to be like her. She is very acknowledged by the magazines and video screens. I hate it to the core, seeing that the external appearance of beauty has sunk your self esteem bec...

IF VALENTINE REFUSES TO COME (A good relationship deserves the opportunity to work)

Image
Final Episode, Love-Is-Waiting Series. Valentine in this piece of art is indicative of perfection. Hence the title can also translated as ‘If Perfection Refuses to Come’ (Let’s give our relationships the opportunity to work💝) Scene One (Standing words) Liz👩: The first day I thought of you, I was in a mess. God sent you as a message to fix me, I guess. You are a Rubik’s cube solved right. Victor👨 : The first day I set my eyes on you was the day I said my goodbyes to my mind’s personal space. You invaded my thoughts and even if I were to be Scofield, I wouldn't have been able to break free from the prison you placed my heart in with your body's movement and your vocal discipline. Liz👩: If words have the power to heal, then you are my doctor😎. Victor👨: You see, when you spoke, I knew God had listened to my prayers. You were everything I dreamt of,  And your specifications were perfect enough to match my missing rib. Liz👩: The first day I to...

LIFE IN A RUBIK'S CUBE (Getting it wrong is not always amiss)

Image
A Rubik's Cube Rubik's Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and Professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Originally called the Magic Cube, on a classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered by nine stickers, each of one of six solid colours: white , red , blue , orange , green , and yellow . The goal is to arrange each of the 6 faces of the cube with matching colours. For example, side 1 (all green), side 2 (all blue), side 3 (all red), side 4 (all white), side 5 (all orange), side 6 (all yellow). You have to do this by only ‘shifting’ the squared colours that make up the cube. If you have never tried solving this interestingly frustrating puzzle, please do😊. What usually makes people give up it is not because they never seem to match the colours, they do many times. The problem is when one side looks perfect (matching colours), then you realize all the other sides are not. This means you have to reshuffle what you crea...

THE PROVERBS 31 MAN

Image
Love Is Waiting Series. Ep. 3 It is so easily we ask for a woman with a ‘ Proverbs 31 Status’ . I mean it is only natural we all desire good things. So when I often hear men pray for a proverbs 31 woman, I am not surprised. This only made me curious to find this woman. Is she in me? How can I bring her in? She is not a woman, she is a personality and everyone can be her. Very often we place our 100% focus on the proverbs 31 woman. Yes, she deserves it. ‘A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised (Prov. 31:30 ). It took a wise King 31 chapters to find this woman. She didn’t even come in the early half of the last chapter of Proverbs, she comes at the last. This woman must be great, virtuous, adorned with jewels beyond that in this world. She must be a gift of God woven in human flesh. She must be a woman with a difference. It says all have done well but this woman surpasses them all. Wow! If excellence means going beyond the mark, like when your green Khaki shorts goes bey...

LIFE IS LIKE READING A BOOK (Personal development is not an option, it is necessity)

Image
Similes & Metaphors Episode 2 I have met people who misuse the phrase ‘ accept me for who I am’ or ‘ No one is perfect’ . Well, you won’t think twice😏 to return your mathematics textbook if everything is in disorder grammatically and pictorially (even though it is not supposed to be an English or Visual art textbook). People accepting you for who you are is not an excuse to fail to develop yourself. In this age personal development is as essential as the air we breathe. Many relationships that started well ended abruptly because someone kept it in mind he was a liar before they met, she knew it and still loved him, therefore he should continue to be one.  A book is not all about the story. In fact it is 30% the story and 70% how the writer explains the story. An author must review and edit the book over and over again to make it perfect. If you ever read a book full of errors you will know how annoying it is. It is like pouring water into a basket because you str...

THE TREE OF OPTIMISM

Image
I can say the most positive or affirmative word in the English Dictionary is Love💓. Very often we quickly attribute negative things to this innocent word whenever we face hurtful things like disappointments💔, jealousy👀, pain😣, heartbreaks😢. I will shock you with one truth that forever lives, LOVE IS EVER TRUE TO ITS NATURE. Love itself is nothing negative. It is not blind, it sees but has the courage to overlook those wrongs, faults and imperfections. Love itself is not weak, it is only strong enough to lose some battles in order to keep a relationship. Love does not fight to win, it fights to keep. This is why it makes sacrifices where it needs to and makes trophies where it needs. Sacrifice itself is a form of victory. Love itself is not wicked. It is a purely kind tool. Love is like a clean water passing through a filthy funnel. The problem is not the water, the issue is the funnel. So also, love was, is and will never be the problem, humans will always be the issu...
